My name is Fenja and I am a photography student at Polaris Expeditionary Learning School. Since I am an exchange student from Germany, my photography class inspired me to get to know the American culture through a camera lens.

With my photography I want to make people stop and think about my pictures. I want them to get inspired and I want everybody to have his own interpretation of my pictures so they can make their own connections to their own experiences, I want to capture emotions in special moments in my pictures. By this I mean moments that mean something to people and that make them think of their own life.

I get mostly inspired by my environment but also by other great portrait photographers like Rachel Baran and Kalie Garrett. They both take pictures that tell stories to me. They take pictures that look natural but still have weirdness in them.

Right now I use a Nikon D3100 and I also really enjoy using Elinchrom studio lights to support feeling in my photos. To adjust lighting and colors in my photos I like to use Photoshop but I always try to keep it as natural as possible so they rally relate to real life situations. I like to connect natural looking portraits with unnatural features like in my picture "Durchdringbar aber doch praesent" and "the colors are running".

I also have some goals for my future photography: improving my photography skills; taking pictures that tell stories; getting inspired by the world around me and making people think.
