‘The activities of artists can be seen as a vast, uncoordinated, chaotic research programme looking at what we are and how we know what we are.’ (Tania Kovats. Underground 2007 Centre for Art international Research)
I want to use my work to explore the interface between ‘us’ and our environment; how we perceive our presence in the landscape, make our mark on it, and how we interpret the fantastically complex built environment with all its materials, layers, viewpoints, boundaries, concealments and revelations.
I focus primarily on drawing as a way of resolving these concerns, but have tried to explore what the widest definition of drawing can be, and have made three-dimensional and kinetic works which investigate the crossovers between drawing and sculpture.
My approach and methodologies include; experimenting and recording, setting up physical and material conditions within the context of projects, and capturing and examining the consequences. I am fascinated by how different experimental processes and outcomes can affect the direction of the work.
