I was registered as Severely Sight Impaired (Blind) in December 2014. I had a blunt trauma injury to my left eye in 1982 causing a macular hole which gives me 1/60 visual acuity in that eye. In January 2014 I was experiencing visual problems in my right eye and was referred to Moorfields hospital in London. After extensive investigations I was diagnosed with Retinal Arterial Occlusion. I was put on a high dosage of steroid treatment and had to undergo major laser surgery to kill off the affected part of my retina. I experienced two bouts of the disease throughout 2014 and due to this I was registered as SSI (Blind) in December. My right eye now has a visual acuity of 6/9 with extensive visual field loss. Photography is my way of seeing parts of the world that my eyes miss. A lady I follow on Flickr from the USA called Chelsea Stark has a great way of describing our hobby "For me photography means that I can pause the world around me so I can get a better view"
