Hororata Highland Games
Drag to set position!
After the September earthquakes hit in 2010, the fabric of Hororata and its surrounding communities was dramatically changed forever. Many of the buildings that played central parts to the lives of those living in the area, such as the church, village hall and local pub were all unusable, along with the schools and houses suffering severe damage.
In 2011 a group of determined people met and formed the Hororata Community Trust, whose sole purpose is to help build up the community and give residents in and around Hororata reason to be proud, once again of where they live.
The Hororata Highland Games is the Trusts premier event attracting 6000 – 8000 people annually. This event promotes Hororata, provides a fundraising platform to over 10 different community groups and has become an important part of the Scottish competition calendar.
