‧Our Mission and Purpose‧
Huashan Social welfare Foundation's mission is to improve the quality of life for elders in need. Our purpose is to use local network of restaurants in the fight to end hunger in Taiwan.
‧How Huashan Social welfare Foundation Raise Money‧
Huashan Social welfare Foundation is supported primarily from the donations they receive from organizations and individuals. The charity also collect and resell unwanted second hand clothes, books and other used items to raise money. There are over 200 branches in Taiwan, each branch get funding from headquarter but is also responsible for raise money for their own in any creative ways.
‧A Meal A Day Program‧
During the year of 2014, volunteers have delivered hundreds of meals to people in need. We partner with local restaurants where they donate fresh-cooked packed in to-go-box meals for delivery. We also put up signs and posters in the restaurant to encourage restaurant customers to buy food and donate to the people in need.
‧How does the Program Works‧
Since I have a full-time job and the only time I can deliver food is during the weekend. On Saturday morning, I will go to each networked restaurant to pick up food. The restaurants provide the same delicious cooked food from the menus. We believe in treating people in need with respect just like how restaurant treat customers.
I deliver the meals with my scooter because of its flexibility and mobility. However, I do not like to ride scooter in the rain, the slippery wet road somehow becomes dangerous. Windy day also gives me a hard time to handle my scooter; especially I have to carry heavy weights of food.
‧Our Challenges‧
Economic recession continues to hit nonprofit organization hard, it has been difficult in fulfilling the financial and resources restraints. Recently, one of the restaurants had made a hard decision to stop participating in the program, due to their own economic limitations.
Other problem the program have encountered is the volunteer rates are down. People are very interested in volunteering, yet less willing to make long-term time commitments. People tend to focus more on paid work just to make a living. In addition with busy lives, it can be hard to find time to volunteer.
I am a volunteer for a non-profit organization called Huashan Socail Welfare based in Taiwan. Huashan Social Welfare is dedicated to serving the need of all elderly and disabled adults to live at home or in a home-like environment.
I am turning my passion for designing and creating handcrafted items to helping others. For every item sold, I will donate NT$50 to the charity. Photos of monthly donation receipt, elderly companion and nursing care will be post on The Etsy’s Blog and Frickr.
‧Solutions in the Future‧
I plan to turn my passion for designing and creating handcrafted items to helping others. For every item sold, I will donate NT$75 to the charity. Photos of monthly donation receipt, elderly companion and nursing care will be post on Flickr.
All items are handcraft during my spare time. If this small business runs successfully, I plan to share my designs and skills to my recently retired parents. This way, it will keep them active while contributing to a good cause.
