I have been a photophile from an early age, but this latest episode started after the birth of my first grandchild 8 years ago. Though I had greatly enjoyed my long affair with film, like many of us I eventually found the enticements of digital irresistible. The then on a whim I loaded up an ancient Argus C3 with some Fujicolor and took some shots of the new grandson, and the rest is history. The delightful uncertainty, anticipation and quirky results of the analog won me right back, and that’s why I’m still enjoying my hobby mostly via film some 170 cameras and 20K pictures later.

Along the way I’ve resumed doing some of my developing on my own, and have also learned quite a bit about mechanical camera repair and restoration. Every one of these remarkable devices is functional, and I’ve shot pics with all of them.

The collection spans a hundred years of camera design, from the simple Brownie box of 1916 through the marvelous Lumix GX8 of 2016.

In the process I’ve become a bit of a photo pest to the kids, though I bet they’ll be thankful later. Also helps that I live in New Orleans, one of the most photogenic cities on Earth!

I’ve arranged things here in albums by camera, and at present I’m about halfway through the collection.

I’m continuously inspired by my fellow Flickr fanatics, and really do appreciate all your own artful sharings and your insightful comments!
