On Aug. 15, 2014, a contingent of Airmen from the 145th Civil Engineering Squadron, part of the 145th Airlift Wing, North Carolina Air National Guard, based in Charlotte, N.C. deployed to Adazi, Lativa for a two-week mission. During their deployment, they built a security fence around a school in Adazi and installed a new roof and made structural repairs to another school in the nearby community of Ogre. The mission was part of a Humanitarian and Civic Assistance project organized by the Office of Defense Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in the Latvian capital of Riga. HCAs provide training opportunities for U.S. military units as well as add value to local communities in partner nations.
