Professor #DJShasiaMuhammad, BA, MS, est. 1970 professionally known as #TheLegendary #PioneerDJQueenMC #EvaMarieKing, BA, MS, est. 1970 was born in the South Bronx, New York City USA on Wednesday, August 11, 1965. Sarah Berniece Lee-King (#SarahBernieceLee 1927-1985) and Theodore King (#TheodoreKing 1927-2000), legally began the process of adoption before her first birthday. In their honor she appointed and named herself the nickname, tagline and title of #SarahAndTheodoresDaughter at her ‘Fly Girls & B-Girls Academy for Former Brooklyn Stick-up Kids of the 1970s.’ #DJShasia’s adopted father moved to 93rd Street and Rutland Road aka (The Nines) in Brooklyn, New York City in 1973, where she visited him from 1982 until 1998 when he retired to Sneads, Florida, USA.

 

During the summer of 2009, while writing her first book of memoirs, she reflected on being positively influenced by Original Authentic Fly Girls and B-Girls from the Bronx, New York City in the mid and late 1970s.

Having lived in a shelter for approximately 4 weeks in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York City USA when she was 15-years-old, following a house fire at her childhood home, she never wanted to return.

 

Professor Shasia credits one of Hollis, Queens, New York City’s Hip Hop Founders, Orville Hall, est. 1975 @HallOrville with encouraging her to film and interview Dr. Glenn “Sweety G” Toby, PhD during his induction to Hollis Famous Burgers & Hip Hop Museum, back in May 2010. Orville Hall is known in the music industry as being a MC/Rapper in the Rap/Hip Hop duo, “The Showboys. On Friday, March 15, 2019, Professor Shasia observed and celebrated the Second Annual International Fly Girls, B-Girls and Women of Hip Hop Day on March 15, 2019 in SouthSide Jamaica, Queens, New York City USA. Last year on Friday, March 16, 2018, “1st Lady and Queen of Philadelphia Rap and Hip Hop,’ DJ Lady B, est. 1979 replied to my text message on the subject of this then newly formed holiday, with the words, “That’s Fly.”

 

“As a temporary resident of the great borough of Brooklyn at the Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. - Van Siclen Women’s Shelter in East New York, Brooklyn, NY, I launched two street/community initiatives in my capacity as a life-long community leader and Founding DJ, MC, Fly Girl and B-Girl in Hip Hop Movement, Culture and Music. The first initiative is the “Fly Girls & B-Girls - Former Stick-Up Kids from the 1970’s” and the second is “Fly Girls & B-Girls International - Brooklyn Street Academy,” expressly and specifically for the purpose(s) of eradicating verbal and physical abuse and violence to girls and women.

 

#ProfessorShasia is also currently planning, writing and sponsoring a discussion at the New Lots Avenue branch of the Brooklyn Public Library @Bklynlibrary www.bklynlibrary.org on “The True History of Girls and Women in Brooklyn Hip Hop Movement, Culture and Music: An open discussion for the Brooklyn Hip Hop Community,” tentatively scheduled for April 2019 (date TBD) in the Auditorium.
