MANNHEIMER SCHLAGWERK

Künstlerische Leitung: Prof. Dennis Kuhn

Das Mannheimer Schlagwerk besteht aus Studierenden der Staatl. Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Mannheim. Unter der Leitung von Prof. Dennis Kuhn finden Konzerte in verschiedenen Veranstaltungsreihen in und außerhalb von Mannheim statt. Das Repertoire des Ensembles reicht von "klassischer" Schlagzeugliteratur bis experimenteller Musik - von Solowerken bis zum groß besetzten "Schlagzeugorchester".

Die Musik zum Ballettabend "Der Seiltänzer", komponiert von Dennis Kuhn und mehrere Spielzeiten mit großem Erfolg am Nationaltheater Mannheim aufgeführt, spielte das MANNHEIMER SCHLAGWERK. In der Folge entstand "Drums 'n' Dance", eine weitere Zusammenarbeit mit dem Mannheimer Ballett und seinem Direktor Phillippe Talard.

Neben Rundfunkproduktionen spielte das Mannheimer Schlagwerk gemeinsam mit der EuropaChorAkademie und unter der Leitung von Sylvain Cambreling zwei Alben (Glor Classics) mit Werken von Luigi Dallapiccola, Igor Strawinsky und Carl Orff ein. 2012 eröffnete das Ensemble das „8. Internationale Percussion Festival“ in Krakau. Im selben Jahr erschien die Portrait-CD „Square & Round“ (Monalvo Records).

The „Mannheimer Schlagwerk“ is an ensemble made up of students and graduates of the “University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim”.

Under the direction of Prof. Dennis Kuhn the group performs in different series of events in Mannheim and elsewhere. The repertoire of the ensemble extends from “classical” percussion literature to experimental music – from solo pieces to complete “percussion orchestras”.

The music for the ballet “The Tightrope Walker” (“Der Seiltänzer”) composed by Dennis Kuhn, which has been performed on various occasions at the National Theatre in Mannheim with great success, has been played by the “Mannheimer Schlagwerk”. In the wake of this, “Drums ‘n’ Dance” was born, another collaboration with the “Mannheim Ballet”. The legendary “Mannheimer Percussion Nights” were begun by the Schlagwerk. In 2012 the ensemble was invited to the “8. International Percussion Festival” in Kraków, Poland.

For the broadcasting company Südwestrundfunk (SWR), the “Mannheimer Schlagwerk” recorded productions of contemporary percussion music and together with the “EuropaChoirAcademy”, with whom the ensemble has collaborated for many years, they recorded for CDs “Canti di Prigionia” by Luigi Dallapiccola, “Les Noces” by Strawinsky and Orff’s “Catulli Carmina” under the direction of Sylvain Cambreling.
