The Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium has nine member universities and laboratories. The university-based program supports scientific research, education and outreach programs. MASGC has four focus areas: environmental literacy and workforce development; healthy coastal ecosystems; resilient communities and economies; and sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.

MASGC is funded through a state-federal partnership with the State of Alabama, the State of Mississippi and the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
