I began my foray into photography 21 years ago, at the age of 36, having inherited my father's Olympus OM 35mm camera... Since then I have fallen in love with photography, and it is my passion, even to this day.

With the help of my good friend and mentor Bill Guptill, who studied with Ansel and Brett Weston, I quickly progressed from 35mm to 6x6, 6x7, 4x5, 5x7, and 8x10... then digital came along and I reluctantly made the switch.

I am a child of the old traditions... Stieglitz, Steichen, Strand, Weston, Evans, Atget, Adams, etc. ...But I also have a deep appreciation for the contemporary... I guess you would say that I am an old soul in a new world...

I still find the mode of 'Through The Lens' composition the most reliable for me, though I dearly miss the darkroom days, and throwing the darkcloth up over my head to take a photograph while viewing the inverted image in the glass of my viewcamera.

It is amazing to me that, as I grow older, my 'eye' continues to change... Shots that might not have passed my inspection from years ago, are now drawing my attention, while others, that I may have favored at the time, are somewhat dispensable to me now...

But such is the mind of a photographer... As Ansel said, 'The negative is the score, and the print is the performance'...
