A delicious weakness for Christmas...

✿ My partner & I were talking about starting a family...

It almost immediately got me thinking about all things that make Christmas so magical for us as children... & how I would love to share that sense of wonderment & joy with my own little ones.

I'll admit that even though I'm all grown up, I still get as excited as a young girl around Christmas time.

Mom had shared some precious christmas traditions with me.

She grew up in germany with sleigh rides in the snow, the marzipan confections in the shape of fruits & animals, the advent calendar tradition & of course the Crèche at the base of the christmas tree with those lovely irresistible figurines

with grandma's constant reminder one could only look but better not touch!

(incidentally this why they have been extraordinarily well preserved to this day - bless her!)

As I was saying the thought of having a child got me all nostalgic & this is when I got the idea of building my own wooden advent calendar, one that would last for years, with drawers big enough to hold fun little gifts & treats.

I started off making one advent calendar which I very much enjoyed painting & decorating.

In fact I was so pleased with the result that I decided to create another one (then another & another) & this is when the idea of opening an Etsy shop came into being.

✿As for our baby plans, well in the meantime we have been blessed with a darling puppy who is always happy & never grumpy - so it looks like I'll have to skip setting up the christmas tree this year for its own sake :)
