I'm married with 1 child and work full time. I'm Dutch - arrived in Australia in March 2002. I've lived in the Netherlands for the most part of my life, but also in Liberia, on Curacao, on Borneo (East Malaysia) - I wasn't into photography then, talk about missed opportunities.
I've taken to photography in 2006 after getting our first digital camera. I upgraded in 2007 from a Canon PowerShot A610 to a Canon PowerShot S5 IS and in December 2008 to a Canon EOS 40D. I still feel like a beginner - half the time I don't know what I'm doing. But boy it's exciting when you capture a good photo!
Some of the work on flickr just blows my mind. Have a look at my favourites to see what I'm aspiring to (or just like looking at).
For those of you who fave some of my photos - big smile and thank you! However if I notice that you have no real flickr 'presence' I will block you. My apologies if this happens to genuine flickr members who for whatever reason haven't yet had time to set up their account.
Regretfully, time constraints prohibit me to have much of a presence. So, please do not be offended if I do not accept invitations to join or do not make you a contact. I like to visit my contacts streams and leaving comments and I would not be able to continue if the volume increases.
From PIP Introduction - sometime first half 2008:
1. What do you photograph?
Anything that catches my eye: Colour, lines, patterns, landscapes, nature, urban, animals, building, family, friends and last but by no means least my daughter.
2. Hobbyist, semi-pro, pro or something else?
Hobbyist (meaning its a hobby, but I've started taking photos 3 yrs ago, meaning most of the time I don't know what I'm doing)
3. Why PIP (How did you find us? What motivated you to join? etc)
I searched Flickr for photographers in Perth (word for word) and PIP came up - providence. I was looking for local people willing to share hints tips and hoping to eventually meet up with people who are into photography and don't mind a novice lurking about.
4. Would you attend a PIP meet or PIP event (eg. road trip)?
Yep - signed up for Byrnie's Yanchep adventure, but with work, family commitments, etc. I'll not be able to go to as many events as I'd like (can't go to the open night).
5. Favourite way to spend a cold and wet winter weekend?
Taking photos of my kid, reading, watching a movie, scrapbooking, making soup, etc
6. Preference: Beach, Bush or Burg (City)?
yes
7. When are you most active as a photographer (ie. what makes you take your cam cam out and start shooting?)
Travel, family events, something catches my eye.
8. If you had spare cash to spend on photography equipment and paraphenalia, your next purchase would be... ?
Strobist equipment - don't even know what that looks like or what it does, but I'm dying to find out, oh and Canon EOS 40D with extra lens, by then probably a bigger bag, a Canon Pixma advanced printer, a lottery win?
9. What would you like to gain out of being part of PIP?
Photography - Hints and tips, maybe make some photo buddies, going out on photo outings
10. If you were a character from the Star Wars film, you would be...
A female Yedi (light green, kick ass extensions sprouting from the side of the head - vriiiin, voooooomm (light sabre noises)
