Study riparian bird species on the Cosumnes River Preserve in the California Central Valley. The position entailed assisting with two separate studies: one was a long- term study gathering a wide array of data about birds on different types of restoration plots through nest searching/monitoring, mist netting, vegetation studies and point counts, in hopes of informing the success of management restoration techniques by various agencies. The other study was a Master's degree project studying the potential effects that an introduced non-native predator (Black Rat) may be having on the fecundity of nesting riparian songbirds. Data entry was done using FoxPro and ArcView programs. This 6 month internship was both challenging and rewarding, giving me the opportunity to expand my skills and at the same time gather scientific information that can inform wise land restoration management decisions in the future.
