Saltaire Photographer
Drag to set position!
I moved to Saltaire in late 2013, and intend to add my photographs of Saltaire here, under this flickr identity.
Saltaire is a beautiful village just north of Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK. The village was built for mill workers in the Nineteenth Century. A paternalistic vision by the wealthy mill owner, Sir Titus Salt, the village was designed as a whole, with different streets for different grades of worker - bigger houses for the managers.
The village is now listed, so that features such as the stained-glass windows and round arched doorways are kept. One of the streets (Albert Terrace) is cobbled. Visiting Saltaire is thus a little like stepping back in time. It's a great place to photograph.
A theme I'm trying to work on here is that I have a person or animal in each shot. The sense is that I want to give the photographs a little life and context. It's a principle that slides now and then, but that I'll stick with. When I look back over the photos, it's the ones with people in that I love the best.
(I'm not going to say much about myself. I'm enjoying carving out this space where I can quietly add photos. Feel free to contact me via flickrmail. But I'm not giving out my email address or any other contact details.)
