OK. You've found my Flickr website. Let's see if I can provide a complete biography that summarizes any gaps.

Life is good. I went to the University of North Carolina (both undergrad and grad school ...Greensboro and Charlotte campuses). I was an Urban Planner for the City of Charlotte, NC for a number of years.

While attending my 10 year Largo High School class reunion, I met fellow Largo classmate - Maelouise Tennant. We hit it off instantly. For the following three years we bridged the 700 miles between our homes by lots of rendezvouses and travel. When the long distance romance thing wore thin, I finally moved to South Florida to join Maelouise. We subsequently married four years later.

During this time we traveled together extensively throughout Europe, the South Pacific, Africa, Southeast Asia, Central America, and South America. Also as a travel photographer, I amassed a large image library of travel and editorial images. Since Maelouise and my meeting, we have traveled to almost 1/3 of the Earth's countries on six continents (75 countries and territories in all).

We live in West Palm Beach in the tropical, coastal, southeastern part of Florida. After I'd relocated from Charlotte, I'd originally continued my career as an urban planner for a number of years. I loved working in the field. But over time I tired of the failure of sound planning to influence less than qualified elected officials who were making bad decisions with sad consequences.

Maelouise is a mechanical engineer. Until two years ago, she was working on the Space Shuttle. She is also an excellent student. She recently completed her doctoral PhD in family counseling. She may one day transition to a new career when the time is right. In the meantime she loves what she does.

I left my career in urban planning and pursued full time the acquisition of real estate in two states (before the economic bust). So far all remains stable since we were fairly conservative with our investments. With urban planning and real estate investing fully experienced, I returned to my roots as a photographer and artist. I attended the Art Institute in Ft. Lauderdale to receive a formal education in professional photography. I subsequently created a photography business and developed a web site that aptly showcases my work and attracts new clients. To view, go to:

Up until a few years ago, my photographic work had mainly focused on travel, architectural, editorial, and traditional portraiture. But after the economic down-turn, my photography business lost clients who were having to downsize and cut expenses.

Work content significantly changed after I opened up a companion business six years ago as a professional bodypainter. I also shifted my photographic emphasis to modeling, fashion, and glamour as a compliment to the body art. That appears to have been a good decision in South Florida with its emphasis on the modeling and fashion industries. Think trendy Miami Beach only 65 miles south. I love being an artist and it goes without saying, I work on interesting canvases. I have managed to create a new hybrid niche that combines both my photographic expertise and bodypainting talents. I even have clients who fly in from as far away as Canada to take advantage of my 'Bodypainting & Photography Packages'. Patrons are given the opportunity to indulge themselves entirely as eye-catching body art and then they can be stunningly portrayed before the camera. Many describe it as a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience as well as the safest off-beat excitement one can savor.

I'm in the process of diversifying my product line and adding new income sources. For example, I bodypaint at several South Florida clubs and I am in negotiations with a several advertising agencies and marketing firms as photographic clients. I'm also working on an emerging book of my bodypaintings that may add spice to coffee tables nationwide. Last, I travel the region serving individual bodypainting and photographic clients - going as far south as Key West (during October's Fantasy Fest). I have two bodypainting and/or photography studios, one located in West Palm Beach and one in Ft. Pierce/Port St. Lucie (1 hour north), which help me serve the needs of my discerning patrons.

They say it all.

Last, as part of my marketing, I have a free subscriber list for people who love to receive one stunning yet tasteful bodypainting photograph via a bi-weekly e-mail. Each contains a sample of my latest painted creation. Not surprisingly, the number of recipients is growing. To contact me via e-mail and request your addition to the list, go to my web page:

The site allows you to send me a brief message requesting your placement on the "bodypainting disribution list". Important: Please include your first and last name, city location, and e-mail address. Simple!

Reinvention is a process as one learns to adapt to new or untapped demand for services and products. American culture is obviously evolving as people discover new ways of self expression. In my case, the metamorphosis is still underway.

Living in South Florida with its tropical flora and nearness to international destinations continues to be wonderful. But attempting to summarize the passing years in paradise remains a difficult task. Obviously, more experiences and interests exist. Nonetheless, we feel happy, enjoy what life has to offer, and continue to grow.

Sincerely,

Carl
