I love car racing, SCCA road racing, Fly fishing, and photography

Most of my photos are from the Oregon area and the Willamette Valley including Portland, Oregon

I began using a film camera from the early 70's. Actually I used my fathers family Kodak Brownie back in the 50's.

I bought a Yashica twin lens reflex camera and even developed my own B&W for a short time. I think a few years later I bought a Canon AE1 with a Vivatar macro zoom lens.

Then I converted to using slides instead of print film. LOL, now I have a almost 1000 slides I have never done anything them.

Time moved on and I finally in 2008 bought a Minolta Z6 6MB all in one camera. However, I was just a point and shoot type of guy.

This Z6 was used when we toured the USA for 51/2 months. Seeing 27 states. We took over 5000 pictures going from Oregon to the SW then across the Gulf states. It was time for us to drive to Charlotte, NC and NASCAR country. Up through Virginia to Cherry Hill, Maryland RV park for touring Washington DC during the 4th of July. It was time to start back. So off to Gettysburg and back down Appalachian mountains. Into Arkansas and Missouri before heading to Wyoming and Montana. Yellowstone National park for our 3rd visit there. Down and across Idaho into Eastern Oregon and 350 mile drive back to the Willamette valley and Portland, OR. Our 1995 Monaco Dynasty motor home was comfortable and fun to drive. It never let us down other than replacing a $250 belt in Kansas. But Damn it was hot the entire trip as we had left about mid May. Oh yeah, we had snow in Flagstaff, AZ about the 3rd week of May. Then a few days later in Moab, UT it was in the 90's. The SW heat was warm but the high humidity across the rest of the USA back B A D. I swear it was 90 % & 90+ degrees temperature.

In the past 6 years I have taken photography much more serious. Watched videos taken classes and joined several different camera clubs.

I started to use PSE10 then upgraded to PSE15 editing programs. I added Canon's DPP4 as well. Now I am using ON1 RAW 2022.1 for my editing. OH Boy do I need to learn Masking, Layers, and cataloging my pictures. I still over post processing.

At 80 years old, I am having a good time trying to keep my mind on learning, reaching out to expand my "picture taking" skills. My wife is my director to better composition or view. We load up the dogs, tripod and my backpack filled with my Canon 80D, tripod/s and lens, { 24 & 40 mm pancake, 24-105L F4, Tamron 70-300, Canon 50mm F1.4 FD converted to EF, kit 18-55mm EF F3.5-5.6 & my newest Canon 10-18mm F4.5 ) Now that COVID is slowing down, spring is here, and I am in better condition from exercising. I am ready to expand my photography this year 2022.

However, My son races a SCCA SRF3 and is waiting for a new sequential transmission. So we are now working on his car. JD my not enter many races this year and spend more time traveling to new tracks here in the NW of the USA which SCCA does not hold races. JD and I have been racing together since 1992 when he started racing karts.

JD has numerous championships with karting. 3 track records @ PIR( Portland International Raceway )with his SRF. Many wins wins with the SRF/SRF3. JD & I spend over 15-20 hours prepping the SRF3 between races. We have developed a routine which makes for safe races and almost no break downs when racing. ( you can see pictures of the SRF3 by looking back to last August 2021 for Rose Cup photos.

We are a family race team. Barnum Racing, myself self as Crew Chief ( Grunt, data analysis, prep in the shop), son in law and my daughter, JD's father in law, and grandkids. Plus friends. Last year, at the Rose Cups races we had, 35 people join us racing and dinner at the track. We have 3 golf karts, to keep everyone going to the watch the races and for me to follow JD to pre-grid and maintain the hot pits during a race.

Finally, my love of fly fishing has taken a step back because of working on the car and races. I am hoping I will be able to include fishing with photography this summer, time will tell.
