The Literary Consultancy is the UK's leading editorial and manuscript assessment service working nationally and internationally. Established in 1996, it was the first of its kind to help writers edit and assess their work as well as possible, and to help them work out what their markets are.

TLC offers writers at all stages of their professional development straightforward, honest advice. We employ a group of Readers, all of whom are professional writers with many years' experience in the industry, to read and assess the writing we receive from our clients and to offer in-depth advice on how best to proceed in terms of editing, and in terms of publishing their work. We pride ourselves in giving honest feedback that is tailored to the needs and talents of each of our writers, and in preparing them on what to expect in the transitional stages between writing and getting published. TLC also offers one-on-one distance mentoring through its popular mentoring programme Chapter and Verse, as well as running workshops, classes, writing holidays, and an annual Literary Conference.

TLC is funded by the Arts Council, and is a Founder Member of the Free Word Centre.
