I am applying for the Graphic Design BA at Kingston because I believe it is the best place to further my work. When I visited it gave me a whole new perspective on what it would be like to study on a degree course. When being shown the portfolio examples, the high level and fresh design made me want to study here.

Although I love image making, I feel very drawn to the idea of communicating as a graphic designer. When creating work I like to have a context behind it.

For example in one of my pieces called ‘Micro Expressions’ (as seen in the online portfolio), I used photography as a way to communicate my ideas. I was looking in depth at the difference between women and men in the way their expressions and ‘facial ticks’ portray a range of emotions.

When creating a piece of design work I find that I have to recognise the strengths and weaknesses in a piece and then decide how to rework it to make my design better.

My work is both computer and hand drawn. I feel I am good at putting my work through various development stages to find the design which works the best.

Ultimately it was taking the UCA Farnham Foundation and subsequently specialising in the Visual Communication Pathway, which made me realise that what I most loved most was graphics and contemporary design.

Kingston’s excellent reputation and the work produced is something I’d very much like to be part of. I hope I would add to the achievements I have seen. I believe that with my high focus and motivation to produce work I am proud of, I would contribute well to the course.

Thank you for your time. I hope to see you shortly in an interview
