When I was a child growing up in southwestern Montana, girls had to wear dresses to school, even when it was twenty degrees below zero. During recess, in the bitterness of winter, only on the very coldest of days were we allowed to stay inside. Those were the days I went out. Alone. Pumping the swing and watching my legs turn a lovely navy blue, I knew I was flying. Flying when everybody else stayed grounded.
I am fortunate to count as my friends and mentors people who remind me that I need to keep pumping the swing in order to fly, even when my legs turn blue and my hands freeze to the chain.
I am an artist. I always have been. But it has taken most of my almost fifty years, three separate careers, and much deep and sometimes agonizing personal introspection to acknowledge this. It is my desire to create art that evokes an emotive response from you, the viewer. While I enjoy creating in many different mediums, it is photography that stirs the passion in my heart. There is an undeniable compelling urge. . .
I shoot with a Nikon D3 these days. Wonderful machine. Feels just right in my hands. But I am aware that it is the machine, the tool, for my expression. It's me, my spirit, that speaks through it.
It is with great joy that I am updating my profile (April 26, 2010) with news of a business venture. Torchiere Arts is a multi-faceted photography service provider. I am, with my friend Eric Zippe, a founding member of this company, and you can find us here: torchierearts.com/.
Update, July 25, 2013. I recently had a series of my work that was shot in the hoist houses in deep shaft copper mines in Butte, Montana published in the esteemed photography portfolio magazine LensWork. It's an indescribable honor. The series is called Butte, America: images from the deep shaft copper mines hoist houses and can be seen at lenswork.com in issue #107
I have spent the last two years traveling with my husband and our Bedlington terrier in an RV, selling our work in art fairs. We are settling down now, though. My husband and I have both accepted teaching positions at a school in Florissant, MO. We still plan on participating in 8 or so art fairs a year, and I am planning several more series for my Butte, America work.
Enjoy, and be richly blessed.

Trula's work is simply astounding. I have to say- I'm constantly trying to figure out how she manages to pull such amazing texture and presence out of her photos. Some of them simply LEAP off the screen at us. Clearly- an exceptionally worthy stream to add to your list of great photogs! -Andy

There is certainly no shortage of pretty pictures to digest in this, the Flickr universe. One of the attributes that makes Trula special, and there are many, many things, is her ability to observe and capture the world around her in a way that often leaves me speechless. She is not simply a photographer... that title is far too banal. Trula is a master artist in the vein of the Old Masters. I am also blessed by her friendship. Take a moment to get to know her and you will be as well.

This testimonial is a long time overdue ~ Trula, you have the heart and soul of an artist, you see nature in your own distinctive and elegant way, each of your still life's are reminiscent of an old masters painting ~ your ability to get colour, textures, shape and light never cease to amaze and inspire me, and every time I go back and look at them (which I very often do) I see another small perfect detail that I hadn't seen before.
