I've been interested in graphics and architecture for many years (fine arts degree and several years working in the graphic arts trade). I'm one of those amateur photographers that fell in love with the art back when Kodak was still selling a lot of film. I bought a lot of the black and white variety because I could kill tons of time in the darkroom and really enjoy it. But eventually I put the old Nikkormat away for many years. And then digital came long.
Now I'm more passionate than ever, and I guess my darkroom is my Canon 7D and Photoshop, and my canvas is Flickr. I still enjoy making physical prints sometimes, so my 13 x 19 color printer and a decent stock of frame-it-yourself frames keeps me -- and friends and family -- happy there.
I take pictures of interesting things. I post pictures for others to enjoy, even at large sizes and I permit downloading.
If you cruise my photostream, you'll see that I enjoy traveling and capturing memories along the way; I enjoy architectural forms and how lucky I am to live in Chicago; I enjoy color and natural beauty and try to capture that too. I sometimes record whimsical images and try to add a touch of humor to my captions.
But I enjoy other people's images even more. I am often inspired and as often humbled. I enjoy the community that Flickr offers. Of course there are other venues, but I like this one.
On copyright: the metadata on my images says that permission must be requested and granted before use for any purpose other than viewing. I don't overprint my images but generally upload fairly small versions optimized for screen display only. I have granted requests for usage in the past and if you see a use for any of my images, please give me a shout.
