New England Historic Genealogical Society

Holding the largest collection of original family history materials in the country, NEHGS, founded in 1845, is the nation’s oldest and largest genealogical institution. Our website, www.americanancestors.org, provides access to hundreds of millions of records and scholarly resources to help you discover your family history. We employ more than 70 expert staff who help researchers of all levels explore their past and their family’s unique place in history. Our research library houses millions of manuscripts, books, and original items to preserve the stories of families in America.

We are a non-profit cultural institution that is open to the public. Both members and nonmembers are invited to visit our library and archive located at 99–101 Newbury Street in Boston, Massachusetts 02116.
