British Railways Standard Class 5MT 4-6-0 no.73156.

The 73156 Standard 5 Group was formed in 1985 to support the new and simultaneously established Bolton Steam Locomotive Company Ltd, which owns 73156, and to help achieve its aims of restoration. Our collective aim and objective to restore 73156 to full running order has now been achieved and the locomotive will be operated on Heritage railways throughout the U.K., whilst remaining essentially Loughborough based at the Great Central Railway.

The locomotive is now in excellent running order with a completely new tender and has a 10 year boiler ticket.

Following purchase for preservation in 1985, 73156 was initially located at the East Lancashire Railway, Bury, but is now based at the Great Central Railway, Loughborough, where restoration was completed under a joint agreement with the Loughborough Standard Locomotives Group. Excellent facilities exist at Loughborough where 73156 is primarily based.

Following the successful completion of the restoration in September 2017 and subsequently entering into service on the Great Central Railway, the 73156 Standard 5 Group membership voted overwhelmingly in January 2021 for the group to go into voluntary dissolution.
