Photography to me is experimental, stimulating and challenging. I have a strong desire to create an image that is different to everyone else, to push unusual views or create a visual ambiguity. I took both Photography and Art at A level but photography became my ultimate interest as I am fascinated by capturing the emotion and meaning of an image that a viewer can get a gut response to. I am currently at Foundation with a focus on Photography.

I find other artist’s work is hugely inspiring and it makes me think more broadly about my own explorations. I have visited many art and photographic exhibitions, including the Picasso museum in Barcelona, Tate Modern, and MOMA NY.

I secured a months creative work placement at the Walt Disney Company. It was an eye opener that I could earn a living doing something that I was passionate about.

I have taken on freelance photographic assignments for Disney, a local farm, various sporting events and Chesham Town Museum. I’ve also exhibited my photographs locally. These experiences have given me a glimpse of how to answer a brief, plan deadlines and handle a client’s needs.

University of Portsmouth appeals to me because it has a strong base on practical skill building and a diverse approach to the subject.

My current work is primarily documentary in style though I do enjoy experimentation. I enjoy finding subjects that are touched by human hand yet hold an enigma or emotional edge for the viewer. I’d love a future exhibiting or taking on commissions for publication such as National Geographic where images bring real issues to light of human or social conditions.

I believe that Portsmouth’s experitse can give me the inspiration, advice and tools that I will need to reach this goal.

I would bring passion and commitment to the subject and work hard to create unique final images that stimulate the viewer and that I can ultimately also be proud of.

The folio examples I have selected I hope show the breadth of my work from coursework to personal shots, studio to location.
