Artist Statement
I was involved an intro photography class at Polaris high school taught by Cree Bol. I began this class with very little photography skills and but throughout the quarter, I have attained tons of skills that can be applied later in my life. I would love to continue with photography because it is such a fascinating way to capture ideas and memories.
I enjoy creating pieces that make me proud and that awe others. In my opinion, photos that have a deeper meaning, a story behind them, or a mystery hidden within are much more interesting and evoke more feelings and emotions. Photos like these allow for deeper contemplation and they also allow people to form their own personal opinion on what they believe that the photo is expressing. Even though I think that pictures that have hidden meanings or messages are interesting, others think that they make no sense or that they are pointless. It all depends on how you interpret photos and how much thought you put into understanding them.
Some examples of photos that I don’t enjoy are things such as digital art or cartoony pictures. I feel like these photos give out too much information and there is no room for interpretation. Although some people enjoy these types of pictures, i do not find them attractive or interesting. Photos with too much going on or photos that are too busy are also not my favorites. I believe that simplicity is key. The simpler the photo, the more room for thought.
I will continue with photography as much as I can even after this class because I enjoy capturing good memories. I will be able to continue because Cree taught us how to be self sufficient and independent will taking and editing pictures. All photos on here are mine, please dont use without asking, thanks!

Marie Ytell is a very bright and talented young student. It's been great getting to know her in Cree's photography class and watch her skills flourish. I can tell a major difference in her photography from the beginning of class to now. Her photoshop skills have also greatly improved. My favorite photo of hers on her photo stream is titled "Guilt". She took an idea from another Flickr photographer and made it all her own, and succeeded beyond all expectations. It's been a pleasure watching her sprout in class and seeing her creativity really shine through.

Marie is a very talented photographer who has found her own original style, and has recently taken several breathtaking pictures. At the beginning of her photography career she was unexperienced. Over the course of her career, she has had a steep learning curve. Her first pictures were creative, but now she has the skills to express her creativity in the fullest form possible. Marie's concept shot skills have always been excelling, but her newfound knowledge of studio lights makes a truly stunning photo shoot.
