I print collage art on paper in the technique of mono-print - some call it mono-type.This means that every mono-print is a unique piece, because by printing I loose my basic material.
Most of my collages are made in more than one layers; each layer with its own color.
Recently I started to make my collage art in digital print art; and again like I make my mono-prints: with each layer in a own individual color. I reproduce my digital print art in a limited of 15 pieces.
From circa 2008 the main visual source for my urban collage art are the many re-constructions and modernization of the big Dutch cities: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague. So my art prints become graphic colorful collages of urban images which I select and reconstruct from my own photos I made in the cities.
The new cities of the Netherlands with their many building activities, construction sites and modern architecture in the renewing center is the main subject of my recent collage print art.
I made recent years many pictures of the Dutch cities with their renewing centers, growing skylines, modern buildings, the recent architecture and all kind of complicated constructions for train stations, metro, etc.
I mainly made my photos in the center of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and New York Manhattan. Later I select fragments from the photos and combines them in growing graphic collage art-pieces. Each printed collage-piece is unique, so I also offer my unique monotype art in a print-version.
I create my graphic collage art in the simple basic-technique of monotype / mono-print. These printing techniques offer me the best possibility to combine in collage art all fragments and new pieces from the cities which fascinate me. For instance the small construction sites in the city, which I visited frequently. I like their equipment, cranes, the materials of steel, concrete and stone...
In my graphic print art I like to picture the daily life of the building new city and all kind of typical modern cityscapes of the Dutch large cities with their characteristic contradiction of old locations in the historical center and arising new modern architecture, large buildings, complex constructions and a growing modern skylines.
In fact I make unique collage pictures in graphic mono-type art by combining and recombining as montage my selected images from my urban photography That approach is the essence of my recent graphic art because it offers me many time and space possibilities to arrange and rearrange all the fragments of the selected images from my photo stock, I built up in recent years.
To realize a piece of my mono-type collage art I start the by first making selections of my own photos I made - and still make - of the new constructions and modern architecture in the city. Temporary I have chosen for the cities Amsterdam (where I live and work), Rotterdam and The Hague, (and a few years ago also New York City Manhattan).
