Vanessa Berry was born in London in 1953 and the family moved to Australia in 1960. Her parents both worked in the theatre and this was a powerful influence whilst Vanessa was growing up. When she was little she often attended NIDA and ballet rehearsals with her father, a theatre director, and this evoked a love of the human form and expression of spirit. Vanessa developed an enduring fascination with art, the human psyche and imagination.

She commenced art studies in 1973 at The National Art School in Randwick and then transferred to graphic design at Randwick Technical College. Regular participation in art workshops and lessons expanded the range and scope of her works, including figure drawings, paintings and mixed media works.

Her career commenced as a graphic artist with the internal television unit of the University of NSW and she subsequently worked in commercial design studios in the advertising industry.

Vanessa Berry began exhibiting while raising three children, and received commissions for illustrations and a range of illustrated stationary that was sold nationally throughout retail outlets. Her work is held in many private collections and has been hung in selective shows such as The Royal Easter Show, Waverly, Willoughby and Mosman Art Prizes.

Exhibitions and works have been hung at:

North Sydney Fine Art Gallery; Queen Street Fine Art Gallery, Woollahra; Lurline Galleries, Katoomba; Artstok Gallery, Cremorne; Bundanoon Art Gallery; The Carmichael Gallery, Roseville; Rushcutters Bay Gallery; Barry Stern Gallery, Paddington; Lilianfels - Blue Mountains; PCL Exhibitionists Gallery; Ewart Gallery, Willoughby; Palm Beach Art Cafe; Norton Gallery, McMahons Point; Xzibit Gallery; and Thierry B. Contemporary Art Gallery, Melbourne.

Vanessa won the Drummoyne Modern Art Prize and has also received numerous Commended and Highly Commended awards.

A decade that has involved international travel and family commitments, has meant that Vanessa's beautiful art works have been locked away in storage. The creation of this online store, vanessa-berry.myshopify.com/ will enable people the opportunity once more to view Vanessa's art and purchase works at reduced prices (no gallery fees!:)). Her sister Rowan Hanley handles the online sales and any enquiries. She is happy to arrange a studio viewing if requested. Mobile number: 0418 445 868. email: rowan@lateraltechnologies.com.au .
