I am a semi-retired Psychiatrist-Psychoanalyst, having worked with underserved people for the past 45+ years, helping with emotional and social empowerment. I was the Director of a Psychoanalytic Institute for over a decade, and deeply believe in teaching residents humanistic dynamic understanding. We remember that Therapy had origins in Spiritual rather than pure medical theory. I am proud that the American Academy of Psychoanalysis has instituted a national educational award in my honor. (Generally you have to die to enjoy that honor!) I lament the dehumanized reductionism in healthcare today, and I work to stimulate respect for the human creative spirit of survival. I collect, study, restore, love, and exhibit Medieval Manuscripts, 16th - 18th century books on human beliefs, endeavor, and world civilizations, hand-made brass locomotive models, Axel Haig etchings, and I have played and composed music in Venetian Renaissance style. I am a huge fan of nurses both in appearance and in Inner beauty (I married one!), though I don't like all the trashy porn pictures of them on the web. While in med school I co-founded the Mexican early music group, "Los Tiempos Pasados," in 1972 and we were guest performers at the White House in 1977. Recently I became enamored of the massive works of Handel and find that very early printings of his oratorios can be had at reasonable prices. I am fond of high waterfalls as seen in Norway, Venezuela and elsewhere. I also enjoy Gothic architecture and build small medieval villages out of bits of discarded trash and waste-paper items. I feel this parallels my years of working to reach inner-city patients, motivating potential in what most people would consider society's garbage. It gives much joy and fulfillment! I am proud to be a cancer survivor and grateful to my Mary-love, the clinicians, and friends who provided support. Mary also beautifully photographed most of the pictures of my pieces on this stream.
