[As of 2020]

I discovered pinhole photography.

[As of 2019]

I drifted back to film photography by 2019. I take pictures mostly with Smena 8M, Kiev 4, Lubitel 166B, and Stylus Epic. I am using Ilford, Fomapan, and Lomography films, and cannot say which one is my favorite. Different films capture light through different lenses in different ways, and it creates opportunities to be a painter rather than photographer.

[As of 2015-2018]

I am a bioinformatician at UC Davis Genome Center, California. I work with plants, studying genetic variations and underlying DNA content. Outside of work, I enjoy photography, backyard astronomy, and watercolor painting. My favorite cameras are the Lumix LX3/LX5/LX7 and Canon G15. The Lumix series are famous for their sharpness. The Canon G15 can be programmed with CHDK. In January 2015, I got a Pentax K5 IIs and started to use it with old Helios and Jupiter Soviet/Russian lenses. It evoked wonderful memories of the film photography era with manual focusing through a viewfinder. Beautiful California flowers, landscapes, sunsets, panoramas, daily city and University life moments are frequent subjects on my shots. I like to experiment with macro photography by using telescope eyepieces as magnifying lenses for point-and-shoot cameras. I explore various shooting techniques and software for image editing. I work with Adobe Photoshop to process RAW, Photomatix for HDR, Microsoft ICE to create panoramas, RegiStax for afocal Moon shooting, Zerene for focus stacking, and occasionally GIMP since I am familiar with it. A lightweight Lumix LX7 is always with me. The Pentax K5 IIs is a powerful but heavy tool for dedicated photo exercises. I enjoy Flickr because it gives a great opportunity to explore the diverse multicultural life around the world.
