Living in Bristol has exposed me to a wealth of vibrant underground art. I have been fortunate enough to meet local street artists during my work experience, who have provided me with insight and understanding of careers within the creative arts industry. This has inspired me to gain commissions, designing and creating art murals. I have designed, produced and sold T shirts to fund my own art projects and have also been successful in having two pieces of my work shortlisted and exhibited in a local contemporary gallery – www.viewartgallery.co.uk First Impressions 2013

I have taken many opportunities such as life drawing with the Royal Academy outreach programme, numerous visits to galleries and museums and workshops led by foundation tutors at Glamorgan University and Weston College. This has led me to widen both my cultural knowledge and understanding of art. Along side this, I am currently attending a night course at Bath College, on top of my A levels, in order to broaden my artistic understanding and develop my creative skills further.

Talking to your students at the end of year foundation show made me want to apply to Kingston. I feel it will allow me to explore the different disciplines in greater depth as well as prepare me for a future degree course, possibly in graphic design. This interest in graphics was animated during my work experience at the Creative Management Headquarters in New Look, London, where I was able to work in varied creative styles such as web design, 2D/3D graphics and garment design.

I have grown to realise that something doesn’t have to be beautiful to be art. I think this rings true in a lot of my work and things that inspire me. It is the discomfort and chaos of things that fill a space, which no words can communicate, that interests me. Experiences like listening to the pressured thoughts of the homeless mentally ill, whilst volunteering for two years with the Soup Run Trust, have influenced me as a person. I am hoping that you can help me explore and mature these ideas further on your foundation course.
