How SMTULSA began

You might say it all began with the help of burgers and beer. Back in 2010, the first-ever Social Media Day Tulsa was held at Fat Guys Burger Bar in the historic Greenwood district of Tulsa. At the time, SMTULSA founder Cheryl Lawson was just looking to connect with other social media enthusiasts and rediscover the city of Tulsa as it underwent an exciting revitalization, but the meetups quickly snowballed into something more. Rather than just attracting social media junkies, the meetups began to attract local business owners and professionals who needed to understand how to get started with social media and market their businesses effectively. That’s when the idea for the SMTULSA Social Business Conference was born.

You may already know that the SMTULSA Social Business Conference celebrated our 10th annual event in 2020. SMTULSA Conference evolved into a highly respected, nationally known two-day event featuring keynote speakers, case studies, presentations, breakout sessions, and an abundance of networking opportunities. What you might not know is that it’s fun. The focus at SMTULSA is on building a community that can learn from each other year-round while putting the “social” back in “social media.” When you attend SMTULSA, you’ll walk away with a network of passionate small business owners, entrepreneurs, bloggers, visual media artists, social media aficionados, and others with an interest in engaging through online methods, all ready to help each other succeed.
