Lena's photography often seems to address the multi-layered nature of life -- the fact that there is no simple "face value" because there is always more than one face that is true. There is great depth in life and so there is great depth -- layer upon layer -- in her photography. There is also, though less frequently, a sense of vulnerability and sometimes melancholy -- emotional depths that she isn't so much documenting as exploring. And sometimes there is something plain and simple (2 pillows on a bed, a yellow leaf on a gray sidewalk, ...) that she has transformed as if by magic into a work of art.
