Yesterday afternoon, I happened to catch sight of the return of my lake buddy, the juvenile Great Blue Heron. It gave me plenty of time for studies of it preening and even sort of napping, it looked like. Then it got up and seemed interested in prey under the water's surface.. then after not attempting to nab anything, it took a couple drinks and made some stretches.
I was watching with both the Nikon and a video camera, but the battery power gave out on the video camera, and the room on my camera card ran out... as did the usable light.. before it flew the short distance to the neighbor's dock, which I missed as a result.
