On the Other Side of the River

The Columbia River Gorge is known for its dramatic beauty, but rail fans also know of its railroad appeal. On the Oregon side of the Gorge you've got the Union Pacific running alongside I-84. If you're not careful and are too busy watching the UP show, you could wind up in the river. Over on the Washington side, the BNSF is matching the UP for business and beauty. Both railroads seem to be running them like street cars. We're gathered here together at White Salmon, WA in time to catch an ex-Frisco GP38-2, the 2265, running long hood forward, doing short work enroute east. A long pile of worn out concrete ties adds to the interest as the train approaches White Salmon, where it will clear up for a westbound that's sitting just outside of town.
