CSS&SB MU 23, Ogden Dunes, IN

The real South Shore, at least in my mind, included a lot of traction orange, slapped on boxcabs, 800's, and old MUs. We were out for a drive on US 12, the Dunes Hwy as it's better known, on a rare Sunday rest day. I would say that we saw a headlight coming at us, only that MU 23 didn't have his headlight on for some reason. The modernized car was leading a three car set westward and slipped past us at a typical fast pace. I still hold the South Shore in high esteem, but boy, I wish some of those old orange cars were still out on the line putting in the miles, rolling along the shores of Lake Michigan. I imagine there's not one commuter passenger would agree with me, though. Shot on a beautiful Sunday, June 21, 1980.
