Steam Engine
This steam engine drove the pump that emptied the water from the dry dock at the Collingwood Shipyards. The pump was able to empty the dry dock in about three hours and was the largest pump in Ontario, with a 38-inch diameter suction. It was installed in the pump house in 1903 when the dry docks were lengthened. The engine was fueled by two coal fired boilers and the coal was brought in by ship. Later the pump was run by compressed air.
The pump is now on display on the spit that runs out to the Collingwood Terminals Elevator in the harbour at Collingwood, Ontario.
