Western Trust
3 Throwback - 21 June
Joe took on a particular responsibility for services in the Southern Sector of the Trust, most notably the planning and development of the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen and the new Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex.
On 21 June 2012 history was made as Northern Ireland’s newest major acute hospital, South West Acute Hospital, opened its doors to patients for the first time. It signalled a new chapter in the history of healthcare for hundreds of thousands of patients in the Fermanagh and Tyrone area who are now benefitting from the state-of-the-art facilities.
The £276 million project started in 2006 and took six years to complete from planning to building to handover. This remarkable achievement could only be attributed to the dedication and determination of staff, including Joe who played a key role in every stage of the process and has continued that level of support and leadership in all his work throughout the Western Trust.
