Turkish and Belgian girl in Millenium Park
Here is another photo of two strangers that I asked in Chicago to take their photo. These two bubbly Belgian and Turkish girls were visiting from North-Carolina.
Looking at some of the photos I took of people, I realize that those closer-up shots are on average much sharper than the full-body portraits. Seeing so many out of focus is disheartening but then I eventually come across one where the Rolleicord totally redeems itself.
Shot on Fuji Acros and developed in Rodinal (1+50 with 4g of sodium ascorbate) for 6 minutes. While the raw scan looked already quite decent there was still quite a bit of post-processing applied here. I find that with people smiling and even when they have a perfect toothpaste smile in real life (as these two had), they rarely ever do in a photo so I dodged the teeth a little bit. Other than the mandatory dust spotting and a slight S-curve, I applied a pretty aggressive unsharpen mask as well (200%, 3px, threshold of 15) through a layer mask. This always works well with film that has little grain and Acros is excellent in that respect.
