Words of Wisdom

This is from inside the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, DC. I like this because it uses the "original intent" of a Founding Father to refute the idea that we should live in a nation with laws based on the Founding Fathers' "original intent." (I, too, can be a hypocrite I suppose...except that I cite Jefferson as my prerogative, not because I believe I'm compelled to do so.) I also like this because it suggests that changes to the Constitution should be borne from enlightenment, progress, new truths -- and not from the base, animal fear and single-minded insularity and intolerance that seems to drive most proposals I hear floated about for amending the Constitution.
