This is a real photo post card of someone’s home, somewhere. It was the habit during the heyday of the post card (roughly 1900-1912) for a home owner to buy photo post cards and send them to friends and relatives. Often itinerant but enterprising photographers traveled from town to town, taking photos and then offering to prospective clients a certain number of views. The angle (and perhaps position of the house on its lot) shows basically a side view of this home. Not much is visible of the roof or of any ornamentation. The porch is small, approached by wooden steps. The entrance is visible. It appears as if the porch roof supports are turned. I’ve wondered if this is, indeed, the front view, or is it a view of a rear porch. The fence has seen better days as has the gate—which here serves no function whatsoever.
