Purse of Buttons!
Wow, this is an old shot! Looking at it from the current perspective...the Zebra broke (the back fell of), Music=life fell off but then I found it again and put it back on, Chococat has moved to the strap and been replaced by a button that declares my love of libraries, Mario and Lotus are both gone - probably for good, since I can't remember where they've gone, though Lotus might still be around, the back fell off of the heart unicorn, Quatre, and Gourry but I managed to salvage both pins, and my new years charm was getting too damaged, so I took it off (it started with 8 charms, and after more than three years it was down to 4, makes me very sad) - I've putt notes on which buttons I mean. :)
The purpose of the bag of pins and patches is to be a tangible representation of things that are important to me. I've been putting pins on my bags since I was in high school - I had a collection that were on my CD case. I moved the pins and the patches from bag to bag.
My first year of grad school, I got a bag with a big Hogwarts emblem on it. Because of it's configuration, I couldn't transfer the patches to it, but I put my pins on it. Tragically, this bag and it's contents (which were valueless to anyone other than me, in that it contained all of the papers for a game I was co-GMing, my note book and to-do list, and nothing else) were in my car when it was broken in to, and every single thing was stolen, including the buttons I had carefully collected since I was 15. After that, I resolved to rebuild my collection. My anime pins were irreplaceable, but my friends rallied and helped me to get some of the pins that were - and still are - most important to me - I've appreciated few things so much in my life. And the patches were, thankfully, not on that bag, so I still had them to put on this bag.
Which ones are most important to me?
Alkaline Trio, because I love their music
I <3 Drizzt, for the fact that I was able to replace it even though it had been lost.
Quatre, not because I like Quatre, but because I DON'T like Quatre - I had gotten, ages ago, a set of Gundam W pins, and I'd sold all of the ones I didn't want, and I had Duo on the bag that was stolen. Quatre was the only one left, and as a result it's the only anime pin I still have from back in the day.
The charm pin, but it's too hard to explain...okay, here goes.
The Charm Pin.
At New Year's, 2006, my friends in B-ton held a weeks worth of parties. Different hosts, but coordinated. Every party you went to, you got a new charm for your pin. In all, I was at 8 of the parties (some days had a day and evening "party"). I got so many butterflies that Alyc let me put them back and get new things. In the end, I ended up with three butterflies, a little charm that said love (apropos, since I was recently engaged at the time), a fish, a moon, and a star...I guess I'm missing one, I can't remember - a flower, maybe. Anyway, these were to be our fortunes for the year. And, looking back, I think that they came true, if not at all in the ways I expected. I was going to explain...but it's just a bit too personal...and maybe still too soon for some of the things... :) But yes, the Charm Pin is very important to me, though it's no longer on the bag and now half of the charms have been broken or lost.
