Lepiota mushrooms with the ragged cap of Shaggy-Stalked Parasol (Lepiota clypeolaria or kin) mushroom, maybe form "nabiscodisca"
These beautiful Lepiota mushrooms have the ragged cap of a Shaggy-Stalked Parasol (Lepiota clypeolaria or kin) mushroom. Maybe it's the form "nabiscodisca" that mushroom author David Arora says he find under oaks? These are growing under Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia). Like all Lepiotas, the cap has a darker center breaks into scales as it expands. It looks like a perfectly toasted marshmallow. They get a couple of inches across. It's said to be poisonous.
