Assassin Bug on Bird's Beak - Pselliopus spinicollis
Here is a different Assassin Bug (Reduviidae) about to fly away from me from flower bracts of native Bird's Beak (Cordylanthus rigidus, Orobanchaceae) in the woods today. Hah, they always seem to be leaving! I believe this little assassin is species Pselliopus spinicollis, no doubt waiting for pollinators to come by. I usually find a few of these little predators from February to April, so it's interesting to find so many of them now. I've posted 18 photos of these assassins at Flickr since 2012, and six of them are taken since August. (San Marcos Pass, 16 September 2020)
Just two photos today. We had an unscheduled power outage that started at 11:15 pm last night. Dinner time was approaching after a day without power, so we decided to go to town for takeout and ice - and wouldn't you know, the power was back on by the time we got home, around 7:00 pm. I got a fair number of decent photos today which can wait for tomorrow. The hell of it is that we have a maintenance power outage scheduled for all day Monday. I hope enough people complain that they change it - but I doubt it.
