Butterfly two-fer showing a Gray Hairstreak (Strymon melinus) and a Behr's Metalmark (Apodemia virgulti)

This is a butterfly two-fer showing a Gray Hairstreak (Strymon melinus) below and a Behr's Metalmark (Apodemia virgulti) above. I was already focused on the hairstreak when the metalmark landed in my photo. I got the photo, without cropping room. It's interesting how different they look. This happened on new flowers of native Douglas' Groundsel (Senecio flaccidus var. douglasii aka S. douglasii) in the Asteraceae plant family. That's where most of the butterfly action is right now in our mountains, and these are our most common butterflies. (East Camino Cielo, Santa Ynez Mountains, 30 September 2014)

It was another beautiful day today - a bit warmer and a bit breezier, but not too bad. It's expected to warm up about 20° by the weekend.
