Transit Funeral

by TransFormCA

For 25 years the federal government provided funding for public transit operations, but stopped in the late 90s. As a result, service cuts and fare hikes have become annual occurrences as transit agency shortfalls grow. But, a new administration and an upcoming federal authorization bill mean that there's a chance that the federal government will restore its partnership with local transit agencies by again providing funding for transit operations.

On July 22, 2009 TransForm organized a mock funeral with Pubic Advocates and Urban Habitat. This event was part of a nationwide day of action to call attention to the need to restore federal funding for transit operations.
