Melkus RS 1000 at Racer's Quarters

 

Two-seats gullwing-door handmade sportscar from Heinz Melkus (racingcar driver from Dresden, Saxony) launched in 1969

 

about 100 units (until production ended in 1980)

 

powered by a Wartburg 3-cylinders 1-litre two-stroke-engine (circa 70 PS, for motorsport purposes tuned over 90 PS) installed behind the passengers-room

 

In the 1980s some were refitted with 1.6-litre 4-cylinders 4-stroke-engines of the BMW 02-series (85 PS to 90 PS or 105 PS of the rare 1600 ti-versions).
