Belgian Air Force Dassault Mirage 5BA 13-PL (62747)

Belgian Air Force Dassault Mirage 5BA BA35 (13-PL) (c/n 35).

The livery and the markings of this jet let it look like a member of the Armée de l'Air, but in reality this is BA35 of the Belgian Air Force.

The Mirage 5 was designed as a replacement for the Republic F84F Thunderstreak and RF84F Thunderflash. In total 106 Mirage 5 were purchased by the Belgian Government (63 BA, 16 BD, 27 BR).

The BA variant was a ground attack aircraft.

Interesting: enlarge the photo to see that the jet is titled Mirage III which is not correct.

BA35 was delivered to the BAF on 21.03.72. The jet was severely damaged by an engine explosion on 25.01.79 during start-up. The wreck was sold later. The aircraft on display was "composed" by the fuselage of a Mirage 5F (c/n 54), the nose cone of a Mirage IIIE and the wing of a Mirage IIIC.
