M5 Stuart

During the Second World War the M3 Stuart was upgraded and evolved into the M5 Stuart. Some of the changes to the hull and turret are visible when comparing this photo to the one I took of the M3. The engine and transmission were also upgraded but the armament, primarily a 37mm gun, remained the same.

The Stuart, even after these upgrades, was no longer an effective combat tank in Europe but continued to serve there in reconnaissance units and also remained effective against the less powerful tanks fielded by Japan in the Pacific theatre.
