Isolation
There's a saying 'never work with animals or children' but for me people generally can be top of that list when it comes to photography. It's certainly not a subject I'm comfortable with, and would rather photograph animals any time.
After looking back on the shots I took Friday I've learned a few lessons regarding photographing people, the most important of which is 'isolation'. There is nothing more irritating than having a perfect moment spoiled by a stray arm, blurred head or frankly any part of anybody else - usually the problem in family gatherings.
However a good lesson I also learned is if you're taking photos you can tell exactly the moment you turned from jolly to drunk by examining the evidence - especially if you're manual focusing. This can be a godsend if you're in dispute with your partner the following day about exactly when you should have stopped drinking!
