The mysterious crying boy, his image has haunted us for decades.
In post WW2 Australia, following the reversal of the White Australia Policy that had restricted migration to people from Great Britain large numbers of non-english speaking migrants, mainly from western europe settled here.
These people were referred to by the established british descended population as "wogs"
During the 60s and 70s when most of these migrants saved enough to buy homes, start families and build new lives here they acquired mass produced obkects of art such as this poster. These became features within their simple homes and trigger a wide range of responses within the children who grew up in the wog life.
